These aren't fakes.. Looks like there's a problem the archive's online reader when the source is PDF files with multiple layers.

Take a look at this link, which is the pdf version of the first book you mentioned, and you'll see all is well:

In other words, the books are complete, and the sky is not falling :)

O no! One can immediately refute such a comment after downloading and opening this very pdf file. Not only the above mentioned white right angle figures do remain, but also while selecting those whole damaged pages and coping them to the clipboard, one would get the white right angle figures back if having pasted them elsewhere, say, to a Word page.

What version of Adobe reader are you using?

To be more specific, let's take for instance page 15 of this pdf file: I can see the left side of the page as a lot whitened as compared to the right side. Again, the file has been downloaded, it's not online. Other damaged pages do contain these areas as completely white.

Do you mean I should have the latest version? - It's too big for my PC. - Or which one did you mean then?

Along with Adobe Reader 7.0, I'm also using some other viewers, like Foxit Reader, etc., and they all show the same result.

Hmm.. The file claims to only require version 1.5 or higher, but it looks ok in my version of Adobe Acrobat (version 1.9).

When I look at it I do see the left column as well, but it is more gray instead of black. Evidently the process google uses tries to save text as black & white, while leaving the areas it thinks are pictures pictures as shades of gray. You are having problems seeing the areas that are saved as pictures (though sometimes, like this case they are actually part of the text).

It does appear that there's problems with everything but the pdf file though. The PDF is the source document (which came from google). Hopefully this is something the archive folks are taking a look at. I expect that when the find the problem they will reprocess the files that have this problem.

Formerly, I downloaded files thinking they all were OK. Now, I have to look them through in order to exclude such damaged pages. If there are parallel copies one can re-download them from another source. However, it's not always the case that there are parallel copies available.

I hear you are angry, but maybe the energy should be brought to bear in fixing the problem? If it's clear there is a problem, which there very well might be.
When you eat for free at another person's table, you can't complain about the food too much, unless you want to try and help the cook (and even then go easy).
And Cap Lock is never your friend.

Apropos of CapsLock: You are right, it's been a fault of mine, I haven't noticed switching to the 'State Department Style', sorry. (They are writing all the documents in this style throughout, anyway!). Never will do such a thing anymore.

You are taking me a way off the topic. If you have to complain at one's table, different scenarios are possible even if the table is served as being free. You may go away without complaining though thanking. Inside you'll be worrying, anyway. Or you may be alarming. As at my best friend's. Hoping he'll do his best while expecting my complaints. That's my case. I like this site very much indeed.

I have downloaded lots of fine files from this site, feel rather thankful than protesting, only few are damaged. So I tried to report damages and was trying to contact the scanning person. However, the intendant's reply was scanning is a matter of volunteers, so no contacts wanted. I can't guess why.

All the 3 mentioned files came from google. Is it possible to signalize the damaged files? Perhaps, google is not aware of this problem.

I have downloaded dozens of files from your marvelous site. Only certain (few) of them have such problems.
